In Mardin, which was included in Women Friendly Cities Programme in 2011, the efforts to assure gender equality continues.

Mardin Strategic Action Plan comprising Mardin Local Equality Action Plan was approved by majority during Provincial Women’s Rights Coordination Council Meeting held on 6 August.

Mardin Local Equality Strategic Plan, which was submitted for approval by the Deputy Governor, Mr Hüseyin Avcı, was approved by majority. Mr Avcı also stressed that the programme was considered important by the Ministry of Interior and the importance of institutions to fulfil their responsibilities regarding gender equality.

Mardin Local Equality Strategic Plan

In order to achieve gender equality in Adıyaman and to become a Women Friendly City, Adıyaman Women’s Rights Coordination Council approved Adıyaman Local Equality Strategic Plan which develops a road map to assure gender equality in Adıyaman and includes detailed situation analysis.

The Governorate of Adıyaman took the necessary steps to put the Local Equality Strategic Plan into practice and issued a circular regulating the essential work to be carried out by the Governorate and institutions. In addition, the Governorate of Adıyaman made an institutional commitment by preparing a directive for the continuity of the Equality Unit established within the Governorate.

Adiyaman Local Equality Strategic Plan and Directive of the Equality Unit of Adıyaman Governorate

Şanlıurfa Local Equality Strategic Plan, presenting the needs of women and girls regarding education, health, employment, violence, municipal services and the participation in decision making mechanisms by data and findings, identifying the institution based responsibilities and aims and offering solutions, was approved in Şanlıurfa which is among the provinces of Women Friendly Cities Programme since 2006.

The Provincial Women’s Rights Coordination Council assembled under the chairmanship of the Deputy Governor Aylin Kırıcı Duman on 17 July approved the Strategic Plan. The subjected plan was submitted to Governorates and Municipalities for implementation and incorporation into the Strategic Plans.

Samsun Women’s Rights Coordination Council gathered on 11 July approved Samsun Local Equality Strategic Plan which develops a road map to assure gender equality in Samsun and includes detailed situation analysis in Samsun which is among the provinces of Women Friendly Cities Programme.

The Provincial Women’s Rights Coordination Council assembled under the chairmanship of the Governor Hüseyin Aksoy on 11 July approved Samsun Local Equality Strategic Plan. During the meeting, it was decided to submit Samsun Local Equality Strategic Plan to relevant institutions for implementation.

The Equality Unit of Samsun Governorate providing services by a staff of three persons in the Governorate of Samsun is the main pillar of these efforts. Kars Local Equality Action Plan was harmonized with the strategic planning structure following a series of focus group discussions held under the scope of a study jointly implemented in all programme cities in the period of January-May 2014.

Kars Local Equality Action Plan was approved on 1 July by Kars Provincial Women’s Rights Coordination Council. The plan was put on the agenda of Kars Municipal Council and Kars Provincial General Assembly.

The Governorate of Kars by issuing the ‘The Directive on the Establishment, Duties and Working Principles of the Equality Unit’ on 31 May 2013 provided a solid foundation to fully implement the coordination of these efforts. The directive clarified the establishment reasons, responsibilities, working procedures and principles of the Governorate Equality Unit, services provided by the Unit as well as the job definition of the responsible person and experts of the Equality Unit.
